Success Story

NULL Saraswati, a teacher,aged 37, in October 1999, nominated by the education department was very skeptical about the programme and what Meljol aimed at achieving-she believed that children could not have rights. They had too many responsibilities at home and at school to be involved in changing in their lives or society!

She attended the intensive 3-day teachers training workshop organised by MELJOL. As the workshop progressed and as the teacher, along with the others was taken through the actual process that the teachers would take the children through, she began to understand the concepts better. Her own biases were addressed and dealt with.

Saraswati has since begun to change in her attitude and disposition towards the children and the Meljol programme. She says that she has learnt a lot about children- that they have views ,attitudes and perceptions. She is able to deal with them in a far more confident manner and hopes that she has begun to help them grow in the right direction with the right values and attitudes.
