Success Story

Vasantha belongs to a tribal community, which is considered to be economically and socially deprived and weak. Like other women of her village, she too was under the clutches of local moneylenders. Under tremendous pressure of work and debt, Vasantha?s life turned extremely miserable.

ASSCOD formed SHGs of women like Vasantha and raised awareness about savings, income generation, family expenses etc. To start with, Vasantha and her fellow members were provided with training and monetary support to start some income generating activity. Vasantha used this amount to harvested two crops. The amount she earned by selling her produce helped her to clear her debts.

Gradually, Vasantha stopped borrowing from the greedy moneylenders. She started assuming an important role in the family by yielding some income. ASSCOD?s intervention not only helped her to repay the loan, but also empowered her to build contacts with banks, government departments and NGOs, which contributed substantially to her economic productivity.
