Success Story

NULL Due to small land holdings, poor irrigation infrastructure and degraded local natural resource base in Raya village, agriculture production barely sufficed for 2 to 3 months. Food insecurity forced its tribal population to resort to distress migration. On average, adult male members of a household had to migrate for about 8 to 10 months to seek employment.

Seva Mandir initiated its work by taking up silvi-pasture development in the private lands of the villagers. Additionally, farm bunding, cattle-shed construction and well deepening works were also taken up in the village. An anicut was constructed in the village in year 2001.

The village community is now relatively food secure. Agriculture production, instead of just sufficing for 2 to 3 months, is now enough to meet a household requirement for 10 to 12 months. People have also started taking up animal husbandry for augmenting their income. Even though migration has not stopped completely, its intensity and duration has definitely come down.
