Success Story

Tribal women suffer from malnutrition and low blood counts. Tribal women suffer from malnutrition and low blood counts. This can be addressed by better nutrition and local remedies. Currently their nutrition status, with `ration rice’, does not give the required supplements. The children also are malnourished and fall ill, often. This increases costs of medication.

Keystone has been working with them for many years to encourage them to grow and eat traditional foods like millet and beans. It has also encouraged them to grow these produce organically. Kitchen gardens will be a logical extension of this work and will benefit larger no. of people, including landless tribal families.

A kitchen garden maintained by the women will improve their health and also enable them to cure simple health problems. It will also provide a dual benefit of food security (food available in the house) and access to land (control over their own lands, rather than being fallow and being converted into a forest).
