Provide the living expenses of a poor old abandoned person for a month, INR 2700

Spurthi Mahila Mandal (Bijapur) noticed numerous cases of invalid and aged elderly persons being ill-treated by their families. This motivated them to start providing care and support for elderly, in the areas in which they work. Spurthi aims to give them a dignified life.

How It Works

• The beneficiaries are 65 years and above and have been thrown out of their homes by their families.
• The beneficiaries are identified through Self Help Groups.
• In fact, in a few cases, family members have taken them back after Spurthi stepped in.
• Despite being back at home, these elderly continue to be deprived of basic necessities like toilets and bathing facilities.
• Spurthi has therefore made arrangements for stay and daily bath for all these elderly.
• They also prepare food for them at their centre, which is then distributed by volunteers at their place of residence.
• Spurthi’s team also escorts them to the temple once in 15 days and for a check up to the doctor once a month.

Home Away from Home
Chandrabai Tulajaram Kalal is pretty old aged and at 81 years is experiencing the real hard life of old age of an invalid person. She was in a stage that she needed assistance for every deed of hers. She was disturbed & helpless. But her home atmosphere was such that no one at home used to like her. Her son & daughter in law are treating her as burden to them & their family.
The staff of Spurthi Basamma brought Chandrabai Tulajaram Kalal to Spurthi & Chandrabai explained the whole matter to the Secretary of Spurthi. After long discussion with Chandrabai, Secretary of Spurthi called her son & talked about the same to him. He accepted to keep her & give her a dignified life with the amount which he would receive from Spurthi.
Chandrabai Tulajaram Kalal is satisfied that she is getting best care from her son during her old age. She is happy that she is with people who are there to take care of her in times of need. She is at peace. She feels that she is leading a dignified life which she ever dreamt for in her life time. She is leading a worthy life with respect in the society
