Success Story

Anushya is 13 years old and mother Mallika is 35 years old. Both are HIV positive and on ART. Anushya had lost father 8 years back. Anushya is 13 years old and mother Mallika is 35 years old. Both are HIV positive and on ART. Anushya had lost father 8 years back. Since then they had shifted from their village and staying in a free land holding from Panchayat. From the time the neighbourhood came to know their health status, community had objected to releasing their waste water to the public drainage. They were not allowed to use public taps nor allowed to clean vessels near Panchayat taps. Mallika was found desperate for help as the community around had asked them to shift from there. She did not know where to go, especially with an adolescent daughter with her.

Staff met Panchayat members and community leaders to resolve the situation. Lastly they had agreed that the family could stay back, provided their water did not reach the common drainage and pollute the environment. Panchayat granted permission to construct toilet and pitch with in the compound. CSR helped them to dig a pit in their compound and made arrangements so that the waste water will flow to the pit. Bathing facility and toilet were also added to the house. CSR constructed the toilet and pitch with in the compound.

Today the family at ease as the waste water from their house is not mixing up with the public drainage. So the community around is not objecting to their existence. With the added facility of bathing and toilet at home, Mallika is at relax as she do not have to worry about her grown up daughter accessing public places for the same.
