Success Story

Once a woman has been labelled a prostitute she is no longer seen as a complete human being. Once a woman has been labelled a prostitute she is no longer seen as a complete human being. Trafficking and prostitution have resulted not only in violation of rights but also in very adverse physical, psychological and moral consequences for the victims, which are serious, and also life threatening. About 70% of the victims suffer from more than one disease including STDs, and HIV/AIDS.

Building capacities of the collectives through trainings/workshops/ exposures has been an area of intervention for HELP. This will enable the women to assert for economic, socio-political rights/justice, access and control over resources. HELP supported around 50 women from Ongole, Tenali, and Chilakaluripeta have been rehabilitated with alternate livelihood support.

Lakshmi after being thrown out of her house by her husband was compelled to enter flesh trade to feed her daughter and herself. After HELP intervention, she approached us for alternative livelihood in Ongole. HELP helped them develop a plan and initiate their business. Lakshmi is running a grocery shop and makes a profit of Rs.100-150 per day. She has taken a shop on rent.
