 Mail

Action for Development of Demos has a unique programme which provides support in terms of rations, clothing and medication to senior citizens, below the poverty line, who are alone and nearing the end of their journey.

How It Works

• ADD refers to the list of people below the poverty line and selects beneficiaries that are in need of support.
• They further get help from local ADD volunteers to identify other beneficiaries based on their economic status and include them in the list.
• ADD provides food ration, clothing, medical care and free medicines for one to the beneficiaries in their houses. ADD also remains in touch with them, through its representatives, who try convincing the other family members about the importance of caring for the elderly.
• The duration of support is often extended if there is availability of funds.

The Statistics

• About 100+ elderly people have been benefitting every year from this initiative

Curse of old age
Sarsawati Devi, 72 years old, who belongs to the most backward locality residing in Sampatchak, Patna is a burning example of the victims of poverty. With one hand and leg paralyzed, she is blessed with 4 sons namely but all of no use as none of them is even little bit worried for the poor old lady who is physically unable to do any work for earning her livelihood. Perhaps she must be alone and helpless in these days.

It also made her available clothes (sari, blouse, towel, bed cover and two times medical checkup with medicine support under Support for poor old person programme for a month.
