Overview

The Daudnagar Organisation for Rural Development has started an eye care program that helps restore the vision of elderly people in poverty stricken villages.

How It Works

• DORD organises blindness screening camps.
• A leaflet is provided to the people that mentions the benefits of these camps.
• Teams have been appointed to run these camps.
• Each team consists of a medical surgeon, a couple of optometrists, a couple of vision technicians, a few field staff and a couple of volunteers.
• These teams will provide services such as screening, treatment, testing and counseling in each camp.
• In case any further testing or treatment needs to be given, government primary health centres and the DORD hospital will provide treatment, either for free or at subsidised rates.

Statistics

• 2 – Number of optometrists, vision technicians and volunteers in the organizing team
• 3 – Number of field staff in the team
• 2-6 – Number of villages covered by each camp

Spectacles his Best Friends
Sanjiv Paswan, a 60 year old very poor old man, lost his right eye when he was young and had been managing with only his left eye. He belongs to a very poor family and was working as an agriculture labourer and was the sole bread earner. His problem increased when he developed cataract in his left eye. His vision was poor and somehow managed to see a bit during the day but in the night his world was dark. He did not have money for surgery or buy spectacles for himself.
Sanjiv was operated in DORD Eye Hospital free of cost and provided spectacles. After surgery, with help of spectacles he has regained his lost vision and is desirous to work once again and earn for his family. He is better now and is able to work without any support.
