Success Story

Most of the children we work with in Trichy District are unlike other children of their age. Most of the children we work with in Trichy District are unlike other children of their age. They are compelled to work in trades like mat weaving. Thread weaving, agriculture, fortune telling, rag picking, etc. besides the normal trades like mechanic shops, grocery shops, tea shops, packing, cleaning, etc. Some of the children are not sent to schools in order to take care of their younger siblings. The low income level of their families force them to either not go to school or drop out of their education. They lose their valuable childhood due to their sharing of responsibility of parents

Seeing the pathetic condition of the children and to change the scenario New Life started special schools for these children. The children after undergoing psychological counseling and motivational programmes are admitted to the special school run for child labourers. The children attend classes to coach them up to join regular schools. The parents are counseled on the evils of child labour.

The anti-socials who were hitherto exploiting the children were referred to district administration and legal action taken against them. So far 126 children are admitted to the child labourers special schools of which 75 children are admitted to regular schools as on date of this report.
