Success Story

Parvathi & Rekha, two siblings were born blind in a poor family at a village called Goonalli in Bidar District. Parvathi & Rekha, two siblings were born blind in a poor family at a village called Goonalli in Bidar District. Though the village is just 10 km from district head quarters; they remained unidentified & were not rehabilitated by any govt office under the scheme available for them. Their parents are daily wages labor and cannot miss their day’s wages. The children were forced to stay in a locked room as there is no one to take care of them.

Asha Deepa found these siblings during its village rehabilitation activities. Asha Deepa first subjected them to a medical check to see is there any possibilities to restore their sight. But it was too late. Then we counseled the parents and community in their village & convinced that these children too have a right to education. As a result of this, they have been brought to school in the year 2004.

They joined the other children in the school. Parvathi & Rekha started learning basics of Braille, alphabets along with life skills such as cleaning and grooming themselves. Also they are learning computer skill & other vocational skills. Parvathi has secured first place in running and participated in many taluka & district level sports competition.
