Success Story

Teen Mukti endures mild intellectual disability. Teen Mukti endures mild intellectual disability. She and her mother who is mentally ill were found in a pitiable state, begging in the streets of Chennai. The Child Help Line rescued the mother and child. Teen Mukti was sent to an adoption agency and the mother sent to Banyan – a home for mentally ill women. From the adoption agency, Teen Mukti was sent to Sri Arunodayam. When Teem Mukti came to us, she was constantly crying, unable to walk, not sociable, and totally dependent.

Teen Mukti was 3 years old when she came to Sri Arunodayam on 28.04.2009. The Early Intervention program for children from 2-6 years concentrates on the following areas, gross motor, fine motor, meal time activities, dressing, grooming, toileting, receptive language, expressive language, socialization, reading writing and number work. We worked with Teen Muktu in these areas.

Today, Teen Mukti is very social, she mingles well with other children, and she walks well with support and achieves the goals set for her. Her mother stays at Banyan and visits Teen Mukti at Sri Arunodayam, every week.
