Success Story

Four year old Soniya came to Sri Arunodayam on 12.05.2009. Four year old Soniya came to Sri Arunodayam on 12.05.2009. She was rescued by the Railway Police at Chennai Station. The CWC sent her to our home. She endures profound intellectual disability. When she came, she had no bladder or bowel control, she was totally dependent for her activities of daily life. She was unable to eat or drink by herself. She would not respond when called by her name.

The Physiotherapist and Occupational therapist worked rigorously with Soniya. They set gradual goals for her and worked to achieve the goals. The goals were to achieve bladder and bowel control and improve hand function.

Now, Soniya shows improvement in bladder and bowel control. She tries to drink water and eat food by herself. However, she still requires support to carry on her activities of daily living. The fact that Physiotherapy and Occupational therapy are very essential for these children is evident from the improvement that Soniya exhibits.
