Success Story

Bhargavi is a six year old female child. Bhargavi is a six year old female child. Her father is an agricultural laborer and mother is a domestic servant. Both parents live in Tamil Nadu. The child is in Bangalore being looked after by her grandmother who is a domestic servant. In the course of our survey to reach out to the differently abled children from poor economic background we came upon this child. The child is affected with Cerebral Palsy and is mentally challenged. Her vision and speech are also impaired.

Bhargavi comes from a poor family. She was under-nourished and sometimes starved for food as her grand mother had to work in different houses and could not give her regular meals. For most of the time the child was left to herself to crawl around. We assured her grand mother about the help the child could receive at Balajothi and thereafter admitted her into our program where she immediately started receiving a good mid-day meal and also rehabilitation and training.

Within a short period of starting this program we achieved our first objective ie. to make the child like to eat food. The second step was to train her to eat food in a proper manner. This is a long and slow process and is being carried out regularly. The caregiver sits and trains Bhargavi so the child can learn to eat. Several times food was spilt and glasses were overturned but gradually Bhargavi is learning this important basic function. Her grand mother is very happy because the child is looked after well at Balajothi. The end result is we have a healthy and active child who is being given training to become independent in later years..
