Success Story

Chandrakala Sunani belongs to a poor tribal family of Koraput district of Orissa Chandrakala Sunani belongs to a poor tribal family of Koraput district of Orissa. Although she had poor education, she wanted to do something for the empowerment of the women of her community. She wanted to raise voice against the inequality of tribal women and the inhuman practice against them.

It is rightly said, where there is a will there is a way. Members of Vikash met her at her village. With the intervention, she participated in a leadership - training programme conducted at Damanjodi, Koraput. She also attended workshops on Women and Law and a state level consultation on Child Marriage Prohibition Act, 2006 from April - June 2009.

Now she has emerged as an active leader in her village. She organizes meetings within her community women regarding laws and women rights. She is also taking initiatives for their economic empowerment. She is one of the Managing Committee of Krushak Nidhi, Semiliguda and is a board member of vikash. Vikash is always in need of enthusiastic leaders like Mrs Sunani for the success of its mission.
