Success Story

The staple food of rice crop was washed away due to recurring flood incidence in Baliapal block in the last rainy season The staple food of rice crop was washed away due to recurring flood incidence in Baliapal block in the last rainy season. Sri Gauranga Dalai was one of those unfortunate fishermen cum share croppers of Talapada village in Baliapal Block who lost his only hope of paddy crop due to severe flooding. His own crop and share crop fields were totally damaged creating a situation of future difficulty for nourishing his family of 3 members who were dependant on him.

ARM distributed relief, life saving medicine & livelihood support in Talapada village. One high raised platform was also constructed. Livelihood support in form of crop seeds, goats, fishing nets were provided from CASA project funds. Employment generating Food for Work Programme was carried out. Disaster preparedness training sessions were conducted. The sustainable approach of CASA to strike the root of the problem by way of providing crop inputs to replenish the crop loss came to the help of poor Gauranga Dalai.

The timely seed help has proved critically beneficial for him for which he had got a paddy yield of at least 18 quintals from the crop of 1 acre. Improved quality of paddy was grown from the seed support and is in excellent condition. Sri Dalai with his family of 3 members has been able to successfully resist the traumatic flood havoc due to CASA/ARM support (revolving seed capital) and his own laboriousness that could fetch him food, seed materials and cash income in the coming days from the good paddy harvest regularly .
