Success Story

Alamelamm a farm women was facing water problem in her 4 acres of land. Alamelamm a farm women was facing water problem in her 4 acres of land. She was growing paddy and jowar in rainy season. Productivity is dependent on rain and uncertain rain several time destroyed the crop. She was using more chemical fertilizers. Even then productivity of the land was less and moisture in the soil was also less.

Manuvikasa planned to work on issues related to water conservation in drought prone area of the North Kanara District. We contacted Alamelamm in Feb 2008 for construction of rain water harvesting pit or farm pond. Alamelamm agreed to construct farm pond in her land MANUVIKASA provide partial finance assistance through government. The pond water is used for agriculture and animal husbandry.

Now Alamelamma is expressing that her productivity of the land has increased due to the improved moisture of the soil. She also adopted organic farming in her land. She also is motivating other farmers to adopt water conservation measures in their land. Now she is getting two crops per annum.
