Success Story

Alivelamma and Nagarjuna aged 8 & 9 respectively were spending their time playing on the seashore Alivelamma and Nagarjuna aged 8 & 9 respectively were spending their time playing on the seashore even as their widow mother shrugs it out under scorching sun collecting fish and selling them. They have not joined any school and use to waste their time off. They use to take bath once in a week, wear torn out clothes and put up a rugged face.

ROH staff identified these children in Ramachandrapuram village, counseled their mother and joined them in 3rd and 4th grades in the local primary school. They were also given regular tuition at evening. They were provided with clothes, given nutritional supplements and their performance is tracked through regular tests. Their extra-curricular skills were unraveled in excursions and regular competitions.

Both of them now hardly miss school and they have started picking learning. They score 40 to 50% in school exams while do excellent performance in kolatam (a play with sticks). Nagarajuna has found his talent in dancing while Alivelamma mimics. They are able to complete 2nd & 3rd grades and have enrolled for 3rd and 4th grades.
