Success Story

Ravi Kumar Jain had been in the grip of cancer since 1995, when a swelling in his right thigh was diagnosed as a rare form of nerve cancer. Ravi Kumar Jain had been in the grip of cancer since 1995, when a swelling in his right thigh was diagnosed as a rare form of nerve cancer. This then spread to his jaw and abdomen, despite multiple heroic surgeries, chemotherapy cycles and radiotherapy fractions. Eventually when no further curative options were left, drastic measures like the amputation of the right leg were suggested by the onco-surgeons. This was vehemently rejected by the patient, so he was referred to the Pain & Palliative Care Clinic and finally to CanSupport for management of pain and other symptoms.

Ravi is a small time trader of metals; most of his business is conducted with the help of his scooter. Due to the disfigurement of the right leg and the pain, Ravi found it difficult to drive around Wazirpur. He also could not take the prescribed pain relievers as this caused sedation and slowed his reflexes, making it increasingly difficult to commute. Thus, Ravi suffered constant excruciating pain. Supporting his family became progressively difficult – the emotional strain had an additive effect on his physical pain. Ravi became withdrawn and depressed. CanSupport visits were the only bright spots in his life when he could confide in someone. CanSupport appealed for financial help on behalf of Ravi, so that the scooter could be modified, making it considerably easier for him to navigate Delhi’s chaotic roads and maddening traffic.
