Himani comes from Shigally a rural village, and has only two sets of hand-down clothing Himani comes from Shigally a rural village, and has only two sets of hand-down clothing, and one warm jumper. She suffers from chilblains in the winter, and like many rural children, often feels embarrassed by the state of her clothes. They can’t be washed as often as they need to be and are old and worn out. This affects her interaction with other students, her health and her ability to learn

We gave Himani two sets of summer and winter uniforms. This includes very important warm clothing for winter such as thermal underwear, woolen cap and jumper, and shoes and socks. The foothills of the Himalayas are very cold in winter, and small children suffer badly, but Himani is now warm. In summer, Himani’s light clothes can be kept clean and tidy and can change her clothes regularly.

Himani now has a strong sense of self respect as she looks the same as the rest of the students. Her clothes are clean and well kept. She is learning about what it means to dress formally, and to take care of her uniform. She is proud to be part of the School and to wear the School colours. She is learning the discipline of preparing for her main job – school and learning.
