Success Story

Murugesan, aged 32 years, is living at Samathuvapuram. Murugesan, aged 32 years, is living at Samathuvapuram in Thekkattrur Panchayat, Thirumayam Taluk, Pudukkottai District with his wife Anjalai and one son. He was working in a brick kiln as a coolie. Every day, he used to return home in a drunken state after consuming alcohol. There was frequent quarrel between husband and wife. He borrowed about Rs.20000 from the brick kiln owner and spent for consuming alcohol. He spent his salary also for drinking alcohol and became an addict. He was not looking after the family. Anjalai suffered very much with her son.

Anjalai approached CARD for de-addiction treatment. She was not in a position to pay for the treatment. Mr.Murugesan was admitted for treatment in the CARD De-Addiction Centre. Mr. Murugesan was given treatment for 21 days in the De-addiction Centre at free of cost. He successfully completed the treatment and visits the hospital every month for follow-up treatment. He has recovered from addiction and is free from alcohol for the last 10 months.

After the treatment, Murugesan stopped going for Brick Kiln work. Now he is working in a Petrol Bunk as Pump Boy and earning Rs.2500/- per month. The entire money is utilized for family expenses. His wife Anjalai is going for National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme Work and earning Rs.100/- per day. Now they are living happily and they are repaying the loans borrowed from the brick kiln owner. Murugesan is going for work regularly and looking after the family well.
