Success Story

Asma, a deserted woman took up sex work when she was 16 year old. Asma, a deserted woman took up sex work when she was 16 year old. She had STD problem many times but did not take full treatment as she was ignorant. She had sex with multiple partners and clients without condoms. She did not have any knowledge of STD/HIV/AIDS. All she knew was to take oral contraceptives to avoid pregnancy since her partners never used condoms.

Asma actively took part in the peer training programme for 5 days conducted by MGVS. Through this training she learnt about basic facts of STD/HIV /AIDS and Sex and Sexuality, preventive methods and regular and correct use of condom. She realized that she should go for full treatment for STD and blood test. She also felt that hat she has a great responsibility in educating other women on the basic facts to prevent STD/ HIV/ AIDS.

After the training programme she is determined to have only one partner and became confident enough to tell her partners to use condom. She stopped having sex with clients who were not willing to use condoms. She has become one of the effective peer educators. She has gained self esteem. She feels that she has a role to play in the society by educating the high risk group women. By Identifying STD cases, referring and accompanying to health canters she feels self worth and satisfaction. By involving in different events of MGVS and sharing the same platform of local and other leaders, she feels that she has a social status too.
