Prakasam District is one of the most backward Districts in costal part of Andhra Pradesh.

Prakasam District is one of the most backward Districts in costal part of Andhra Pradesh. Most of the rural population is disadvantaged and no awareness on health and Hygiene practices, which results about 15-20% of the rural population are suffering from physical, mental and economic distress every year. This was impacting on economic growth, reducing the work efficiency and life span. Though, there is Government Services available, the health assistance is not reaching to all villages, which results, most of the rural disadvantages, particularly women, children and old age are constantly suffering from various chronicle diseases and spending huge of amount from their earnings on ill health.

CERDS selected two villages among the distressed as pilot and organized 2 Health awareness and medical camps in each village. It has taken all necessary arrangements to ensure the participation of all community members by involving the active members in the community. It has distributed medicines, to whoever be suggested by the doctors and made efforts to sensitize the population on the importance of sustainable health practices by distributing the pamphlets containing the guiding principles of Health, Hygiene and Sanitation practices.
Hospital visits have been gradually reduced compare with previous visits, particularly of women and children. Children and pregnant women are periodically attending in immunization process. The couples, who are already having two children, are practicing birth control measures. Open defecation in the communities was reduced. People are showing interest to have sanitary toilets. Wasting of amount on deceases has been gradually reduced, which resulted to have ability to save something for the family necessaries.
