Success Story

Gayathri first came to Samveda when she was nine years old( grade IV) with a complaint that she was not doing well in school and was failing in all tests. Gayathri first came to Samveda when she was nine years old( grade IV) with a complaint that she was not doing well in school and was failing in all tests. Our assessed her, and found that she was having severe reading and writing problems. We advised the parents to put her on remedial training –Samveda model. Her parents however, decided to send her to the regular school and did not heed to our advice. Due to her severe learning problems the school in which she was studying sent her packing as she could not qualify for the IX grade. Gayathri and her parents then returned to Samveda and she was reassessed and was found to be atleast four years behind her grade level.

An IEP( individual eduactional plan) was put to practice and started intervention with Gayathri. It was found that she had an aversion to reading. It could be understood that she was unable to sight-read words and that she had severe phonological lapses that hindered her reading. So, she never wanted to read either at school or at home.

After two and half years of training she took a great interest in reading and progressed impressively. Her improvement has further reinforced the belief of Samveda that children with Learning Disability can not follow the prescribed text books and need alternate texts until they develop an age appropriate reading speed. She completed her X grade public exam by scoring 58% marks. Today, Gayathri is an undergraduate in Commerce.
