In Chhattisgarh, where Dalits comprise nearly 12% of the total population, their socio-economic and political status remains extremely low, faced by inequality, injustice and exploitation in all spheres of there life. Atrocities on Dalits are common. Further, discriminatory practices such as untouchability are still prevalent. Dalit Foundation supported the work of Ms. Raiim Thandi, who is working on abolishing untouchability against Dalits and fighting for their basic human rights in the troubled state of Chhattisgarh. In addition, Ms. Thandi has also attended various capacity building workshops of dalit foundation. Being a Dalit woman, Dalit Foundation felt a more compelling need to support and her build her into a strong leader.

Ms. Rajim Thandi has been tirelessly struggling to fight for the basic rights of the Dalit Community. As a result of her work, 4 girls were rescued from bonded labour; organized awareness meetings on caste discrimination and untouchability in 20 villages. In the meetings information on government schemes such as the BPL Card, the NREGA was disseminated; 11 dalit children were admitted into schools along with a waver on the fee; prevented forced migration of 40 people.
