Success Story

Bhupesh Nagar is in Allipuram Area (Visakhapatnam) is a very backward slum Bhupesh Nagar is in Allipuram Area (Visakhapatnam) is a very backward slum. There are a total of 178 families in Bhupesh Nagar of which 128 families belong to daily wage labour. Because of poverty and backwardness the children do not go to school, work on the streets and join with other children of the streets and abandoned children

A study revealed that they are around 50 children who can be brought into mainstream if a bridge school with a focus on these children is started. The bridge school will help them to refresh what they have already studied and also bring them to a reasonable education level before joining the regular school. In May 2008 ARDAR started a 2 room bridge school for street children.

In 2009 around 25 children attended the bridge school. All of these children dropped out of school. Now 22 children are going to school regularly. ARDAR conducts regular follow-up of the children and counsels the parents if needed.
