Success Story

Sonu is a 9 yr. old girl, whose mother works as a non brothel based sex worker. Sonu is a 9 yr. old girl, whose mother works as a non brothel based sex worker. She uses her home as a base for many of her customers and at times provides services from an upstairs room in her home. Sonu is in grade III. She seeks help of her mother in the home work but the mother is not able to help her as she has no time for her. Frequent customers to the home also disturb Sonu.

We have organized a teacher, hired a place in the locality and have started conducting tutorial classes for about 10 children from the same locality and all of whom have mothers who are working as sex workers. Gradually the no. of children has increased and we now have 20 children in this group. The greatest challenge for the teacher is to do multi level teaching in one grade.

Sonu has fared very well in her final semester exams. She got all the support from the tutorial classes. She was earlier scared of going to school when she could not finish her home work. Now she goes to school regularly. Her mother is very happy that her daughter is doing well in studies. She has caught up with other children of her age and thus her self-confidence and self-image has improved.
