Success Story

Girijamma is 18 years old and a resident of Talakanakapur village in Koppal district. Girijamma is 18 years old and a resident of Talakanakapur village in Koppal district. But she was confined to the four walls of the house because of her disability. Girijamma was afflicted with polio when she was 2 years old. Due to this, she lost muscle strength in her lower limb and developed contracture in her right knee. Added to this, her mother passed away and her father moved on to marry again. Girijamma has since been under the care of her grand mother.

Girijamma was identified during a disability survey. She underwent medical assessment and was provided physiotherapy and counseling. She had to be supported with a caliper and crutches. Since she comes from a very poor family, SAMUHA SAMARTHYA supported her with a caliper produced at the disability workshop. The Orthotic technician also provided gait training.

Girijamma is able to handle her daily activities with some amount of independency. She is also taking part in the community events thanks to her new found confidence. Girijamma is keen on undergoing a tailoring training programme and aspires to set up her own centre in the future.
