Villagers in remote villages rely on traditional water harvesting structures. Villagers in remote villages rely on traditional water harvesting structures, which provide them water in dry periods. Beri or shallow percolation well is one structure that is made in the beds of the ponds in those areas. Over the years, these beries have become defunct due to deposition of silt in it.

GRAVIS has been renovating beries in the region as a part of its drought relief programme. Above beri in Jasse ka Gaon village has been renovated by GRAVIS field staff in 2002. Now the beri is in function and eight families and 55 persons are benefiting with its water.

Eight families and 55 persons are now getting drinking water from this beri. This has brought a great relief especially to women of these families. The families now have more water. The family women now have more time for their children and other domestic works. The health of the family members is now better.
