Success Story

Mariam lives in Ghator village of Jodhpur district with her five children and farmer husband. The economic condition of her family is very poor and recurrent droughts have made it worse. Her family has been facing severe difficulties recently and lacks proper nutrition. 2 of her children were diagnosed as being malnourished and another was suffering night blindness due to lack of proper nutrition.

GRAVIS helps needy villagers plant nutrition gardens. Mariam's family was chosen as a beneficiary for this, and a garden was set up near their house. Only plants that survive well in arid conditions were planted and waste water flowing from the house was used to water them. Mariam's family uses the fruit from these 19 plants for food and also sells some to generate income.

The plants in Mariam's garden have grown well. The first crop of fruit has come and the family now gets nutritious fruit that is extremely good for it, especially the children. Mariam hopes to get more fruit next year so that she may sell some at nearby markets and improve their financial condition to some extent. Mariam and her family take keen interest in tending to the plants regularly.
