Anita Kumari, 11 years old, daughter of Suresh Manjhi, belongs to BPL (Below poverty line) dalit family. The family resides at village Patherkatti, block Nimchak Bathani, district Gaya, (Bihar). She has two younger brothers and two sisters. Her family does not have a land holding and parents are engaged in labour work. Anita Kumari is also a child labour and engaged in labour work with her mother. She also takes care of her younger brother and sister in the evening while her mother prepares food. They are all illiterate and Anita Kumari has never seen a school.

Our organization has done the survey of child labourers at Gaya, Jehanabad and Nalanda district of Bihar. We met Anita Kumari and other needy dalit girls working as child labourers . We sensitized parents on importance of educating their girl children.
Anita will shortly be mainstreamed, complete elementary education and enroll for higher education. In the meantime she will get vocational training and we plan oneducating her younger brother and sister. Finally she will one day be self dependent and assist her family.
