Success Story

Women have always been marginalized Women have always been marginalized and relegated to the status of subjugated class in the Indian society. In Kishanganj the position of women is no different. Women are dependent on their husbands for decision -making especially in the financial matters.

Muskan Self Helf Group was formed in village Galgaliapul. There are 12 members in the group who contribute Rs 30 per month.AIF got the SHG linked with the bank.However the members expressed their wish to learn some income -generating skill to enhance their economic status. Azad India Foundation organized 6 days training in agarbatti (incense) stick making for the group members with the support of Give India.

The group women are pooling their resources to buy raw material from Siliguri.They are also trying to seek loan from the bank to start their buisness.Azad India Foundation is helping them to develop linkage with the whole sellers to give them prepared material. This is only a small beginning of empowerment for these women of village Galgaliapul, Kishanganj, Bihar.
