Success Story

There are number of street children who lack care, support and shelter found in the railway stations and bus stands. There are number of street children who have no access to care, support and shelter and are found in the railway stations and bus stands. Many of them are begging in the streets. Some of them are becoming thieves and anti social elements. They need to be rehabilitated and brought up as responsible citizens. We are able to mobilize funds from local donations and rehabilitate the street children in the existing children homes managed by others. Due to lack of funds we could not run a separate home. If funds and donations are accessible, we will start a separate street children home.

We found Srinivas aged 6 yrs begging at Kurnool bus stand in June 2008. His parents left him in the bus stand 15 days back. He was not able to tell the details of his parents and native place. We took him to the Jyothi ashram organized by a voluntary organization. We facilitated for his rehabilitation. In the Jyothi ashram, he is taken care and getting education and vocational training from a vocational instructor. She trains the female inmates in Knitting and Tailoring and male inmates in painting and decoration.

With little donation available, we were able to rehabilitate the street children in the available home for the children. They were provided with boarding, lodging and education facilities. One such child is Srinivas. He is provided with food and accommodation in the Jyothi ashram. The ashram is ready to bring up the child and educate him further. Now he is in 2nd grade. He will be mainstreamed in regular govt. school next year.
