Success Story

Gandhi, 45 is a widowed dhobi woman in Gunaseelam village. Gandhi, 45 is a widowed dhobi woman in Gunaseelam village. She is deaf and dumb. Her husband died leaving her nothing to survive with except a small house in the main road. She had nobody to support her and found it difficult to run her life. She was not used to go to agricultural coolie work and her dignity would not allow her to go to coolie work. However she wanted to be on her own.

New Life came to know about her and supported her financially and technically. She was advised to make use of her existing skill, washing. The financial support helped her buy a table and an iron box. She was trained by a fellow washer man to iron clothes for a week. Another beneficial point is that her home is situated on the main road. Now she is a proud owner of her small enterprise.

Gandhi is now earning Rs. 150-200 per day and her net income is Rs.3000. She is saving Rs.500 per month in a bank and with the New Life Self help group in which she is a member. She is very happy with her own achievement and grateful to New Life since it helped her to keep her dignified
