Success Story

In our area of service we see number of instances of domestic violence. In our area of service we see number of instances of domestic violence. The atrocities and harassments on women in the family and community are common. Due to social customs and taboos, women are not able to get justice and continue with a lot of suffering. There is a need to sensitize and support the victims of atrocities and harassment.

We took the initiative to support the victims of domestic violence as a service provider under the Domestic Violence Act, which is implemented by the women and child welfare department. We also conducted legal awareness camps and also provided counseling and escort services to the victims of atrocities and harassments. Para legal counselor Renuka ascertained the facts from victims. She guided and counseled accordingly. If necessary she took the victims to the advocate for legal counseling and escorted the victims to the police stations and courts.

With our initiative, the understanding level of legal aspects among the women increased. They are able to question their rights and entitlements. The participation of women in decision making in the family and in the community increased. The victims of atrocities and harassments are able to live without fear. The part time paralegal counselor spends 3 to 4 hours and interacts with self help groups, mahila mandal and CBOs to ascertain the information on victims.
