Success Story

Maariammal is from a Dalit family in Alagiapandiyapuram near Sankarankoil. She is blind from birth. Maariammal is from a Dalit family in Alagiapandiyapuram near Sankarankoil. She is blind from birth. Since her family was poor, the parents could not send her to a blind school. Thanks to help from a well wisher she was enrolled in a blind school where she learnt Braille. However she was not self sufficient and her family was unable to support her.

Rosary Trust runs a home for the handicapped. It rehabilitates disabled persons. Maariammal joined the home with the help of an old friend. The trust provides her with food, shelter, medicines, clothes and opportunities to do some re-canning work (weaving cots and chairs with plastic wires) and making bags.

Now Maariammal is happy at the home for the handicapped. All her basic needs are met. She feels comfortable being with other blind and disabled people and believes that there is hope for the future.
