Ramu lived in rural Alwar, Rajasthan. Ramu lived in rural Alwar, Rajasthan. This man s dream was modest - to be productive and happy in his old age. Taking the cattle out for grazing, playing with his grandchildren and safeguarding his son s crops used to be impossible, due to his visual impairment.

Under SCEH Community Outreach Programme our team visited the camp in Alwar and screened Ramu, who had cataract in his left eye. He was then brought to the base hospital, his fitness tests were conducted, and on finding him fit for surgery, he was operated and the cataract removed. Next day, after doing a follow-up examination of the eye he was transported back to his village.

Now, after his cataract surgery, he can do all those things he wanted to do, graze the cattle and play with his grandchildren; and once again live with dignity.
