Success Story

Rajeev, an Auto rickshaw driver, lost his wife after the birth of two children, Kanchan & Priya. Rajeev, an Auto rickshaw driver, lost his wife after the birth of two children, Kanchan & Priya. As he could not manage home & work he got married again and had 3 more children. Both Kanchan and Priya had congenital Cataract in both the eyes. They were teased by all the children and had severe problems in studies. Their step-mother was also not sympathetic towards them. Rajeev was miserable, as he could not afford to get the girls operated. The two sisters were also leading an unhappy life, with fast deteriorating vision.

SCEH Community Outreach team arranged a free eye camp with the support of ORBIS International in Shakurpur, where both the sisters had been brought by their father. They were examined and referred to the base hospital for surgical intervention. Both have been operated for cataract of both the eyes; in total, 4 surgical interventions were made, totally free of charge to the family.

They were brought to the hospital for follow-up examinations and are progressing satisfactorily. Their vision restored, they are much happier and look forward to attending school from the coming session. They are accepted by their peer group. Their step-mother also feels less burdened, and the whole family is relieved. Kanchan and Priya will now grow up like other normal children, as their improved vision has improved their self-confidence.
