Overview

The programme aims at providing healthy and dignified life for People Living with HIV (PLHIV) by reduction in poverty, discrimination and human rights violation by improving self-confidence, health, economic status and social acceptance. In this project 80% of the infected beneficiaries are from BPL family. They often tend to get infectious diseases and due to this they are not able to go to job regularly nor can they undertake any hard work due to physical weakness. Due to continuous illness they pay out most of their earnings for medical expenses. This results in acute poverty in the family. Our field staff through regular field visit and personal interview identifies the most needy beneficiary who needs support.

How It Works

• The health drink is for all people with HIV/ AIDS whose CD 4 count is less than 350.
• Previously NMCT provided them with Dabur Chawanprash but the doctor recommended that they give Manna Health Mix instead.
• The NGO distributes this at their head office.
• Patients come here once every three months and collect 3 packets of 600 grams (600 per month) each.
• The NGO maintains a register which is signed by the beneficiaries.
The health mix is sourced locally from a supplier.

Towards enriched livelihood
Durgadevi is infected by HIV/AIDS. Her husband died due to the same infection. She has two children, of which one is infected. She lives with her mother and works as a coolie for daily wages. She is on the ART treatment. She was very weak and her CD4 count was very low. Due to this she was not able to attend to her regular work.
During their routine visits NMCT field staff found that she is in a very dire situation. She was counseled by the NMCT counselor and motivated to take ART medicine regularly. Bottles of Dabur Chawanprash, a health supplement was provided to her and regularly monitored by the field staffs and reported about her health status.
Her CD4 count has improved and now she is regularly attending work.
