Success Story

Cataract is rampant amongst the elderly poor in Alwar District Cataract is rampant amongst the elderly poor in Alwar District as they are not able to afford the cost of operation as well cannot access such specialized medical treatment.

Venu Eye & Research Centre, Sheikh Sarai, New Delhi, holds one mobile eye camp on second Friday of every month in Dist. Alwar and after OPD of around 250-300 patients, 30-patients are culled out suffering from cataract and brought to Venu Eye Hospital Delhi for Cataract operation. After operation and implant of lenses, they are sent back home on the 3rd day. Transportation is provided by SAPNA. SAPNA bears the entire cost of the camps. The hospital charges Rs.500/- for every cataract operation.

SAPNA is moving forward with the objective to eradicate Cataract from Umrain Tehsil of Dist. Alwar (the focus area of work of SAPNA) and subsequently District Alwar. There has been tremendous response in these camps. More than 300 patients have been operated for cataract since the start of the campaign in August 2007.
