The railway police contacted Vathsalya on finding the baby. Exposed to the severe cold, Rakshana had Pneumonia as well as bruises on her body. Vathsalya admitted her to a hospital where she received much needed medical care. The doctors attending on her were not very hopeful. The prognosis was grim - Rakshana would be disabled. In hospital for a year Rakshana fought to live and prove them wrong.
