Success Story

The children in the age group of 8-15 years from the poor families in the villages of Nilakottai taluk in Dindigul district are engaged in child labour activities in agriculture farms, textile mills, household works, short stay migration works and taking care of siblings. TAPWA is running a non formal education center at Goundanpatty village of Nilakkottai block in Dindigul district. The working hourse are 5:30-8:00 pm on all working days. 30 children are provided with educational opportunities, sports materials and educational aids.The centers are developed to provide education to poor school drop-out children. Teaching methods are similar to Sarva Siksha Abhiyan.

The children are taught basic literacy skills along with recreational activities; join in group discussions, storytelling, art, drawing, etc. Because of the activities, the drop-out rate of children from the mainstream education system is reduced and the child labour activities have come down in the target village.
