Selvakumar is a10 year old poor Dalit boy. His family consists of an ailing mother and a drunkard father Murugan, shoe maker. Selvakumar is a10 year old poor Dalit boy. His family consists of an ailing mother and a drunkard father Murugan, shoe maker. After his mother passed` away he dropped out of school after Grade 4 to help his father eke out a living.

We convinced his father to allow to rejoin school by way of enrolling his father as a member of a shoemaking men SHG. By joining this group he had help to get raw materials and sell his products. Vizhuthukal Trust provided uniforms and writing materials and arranged for Selva to enroll in Grade 5 in a Government High School at Perumalpuram.

Selva Kumar goes to school regularly. He is interested in his studies. The teachers are satisfied with his progress. His father having been given counseling has reduced drinking habit considerably. His income has increased.
