Gayathri was studying in 6th standard in Government Girls High School, Gayathri was studying in 6th standard in Government Girls High School, Ussoor, when SPW India started its intervention in her school; she was a timid student who found difficult even to maintain eye contact with others. She had low self-esteem but always had an urge to do something useful for her society.

SPW helped her to improve her self-esteem by giving her opportunities to participate in school activities actively and to represent her school at the leadership workshop. The topics covered in the workshop included leadership skills, communication skills and techniques. Gayathri used this opportunity to develop her own talents and learn new skills

Gayathri has become a strong leader for her school and community; she has won several prizes at zonal, district level and inter-district Competitions. She is actively involved in developing leadership skills among fellow students. She has also raised awareness in her community about the importance of education, sanitation and gender
