Her parents had not been able to do anything for their daughter who lost her hearing due to jaundice-till they walked through the doors of APD in 1997, when Lakshmi was 5.

APD reached out to Lakshmi- here was a bright young girl who they would not give up on.She was enrolled in Shradhanjali- the integrated school and her parents were equipped with better management skills to encourage Lakshmi?s development. The school provided her with an environment that has had a catalytic effect on Lakshmi?s metamorphosis.

Today,Lakshmi is in the 4th standard. She has metamorphosed from a shy helpless girl to a bright and confident one. Having learnt lip reading, she is now able to cope with academics almost as well as any other child. She is very active in the class and mingles well with the other students there.
