Success Story

NULL To the people of her village, little Chetna was a strange girl who could not move or respond to any stimulus. She lay supine and inert. Her ears were deformed. Her physical growth was retarded. This did not discourage her parents. Her father, a blacksmith, fashioned a special chair for her to sit, which was certified as perfect for Chetna by the special educators who entered the scene much later.

Chetna was identified by a BPA field worker and referred to Ahmedabad. It was found out that she is a child with CHARGE* syndrome (specific set of birth defects, which includes eye, heart, ear and facial defects, genito-urinary abnormalities and retarded physical and mental growth). She was provided with the educational toy kit and a special educator.

In 6 months she started responding to her educator, chewing solid food and showing emotions. Today, Chetna not only sits, but can also stands with support. She can eat by herself, wear clothes and use personal sign language to communicate. BPA is confident that in the days to come, Chetna will also blossom and grow like her other normal siblings.
