Success Story

Alex is a PLHA Alex is a PLHA. His wife Sara is also infected and has two children. He came to know about his status 2 yrs back. Since the signs and symptoms of HIV related illness are not commonly recognized as being such, treatment is sought and Alex spent more time and money. He was going to quacks and other medical practitioners, getting exploited and lost all his earnings by spending the money for cure

CSR promoted a volunteer in the village where Alex and Sara are living. The volunteer has been imparted training on how to care for HIV patients. She was also provided with medical kit containing basic non prescription drugs to cure simple illnesses at home. Whenever Alex needed higher treatment he was referred to hospital by the volunteer and 75% of the money spent for prescription drugs was reimbursed

The care given by the volunteer reduced the number of days Alex being hospitalized. He was able to spend more time on his work and with his family. Also earning has reduced his dependency on others and debts. Alex remarked during a support group meeting, "Had you promoted a volunteer before; I might have saved my money". The volunteer now cares for another 4 families and they all are happy
