Success Story

Rahul is an 8 year old child who was diagnosed with Autism, C.P, Multiple Disabilities and Speech impairment and assessed at NIMHANS to be 100% disabled Rahul is an 8 year old child who was diagnosed with Autism, C.P, Multiple Disabilities and Speech impairment and assessed at NIMHANS to be 100% disabled ie highest level of Disability (Profound). His mother did not want such a child and separated leaving the 2 year old child to his father’s care, who was faced with the problem of bringing up single handedly a mentally and physically disabled child who needed care round the clock, all through life. A tragic situation which several families are currently going through.

A residential program was started with Rahul and 4 other children. Shelter, food and healthcare were provided. Physiotherapy, speech therapy and occupational therapy were administered on a daily basis and caregivers were appointed to take care of the children round the clock. More importantly, abundant love and care was bestowed on them which made them forget their unhappy family circumstances and helped them physically and emotionally

Rahul now has grown into a healthy young boy and is now capable of walking short distances without support, responds to repeated instructions, can play music and games on the computer and is everyone’s favorite. He still cannot speak a single word but can point out to pictures. Without a doubt he needs lifelong support in a supportive environment, with plenty of love and sense of belonging. Doctors handling his case and the media are of the opinion that he is a medical miracle
