Success Story

Bethammal, 11, belongs to a family of 6 members Bethammal, 11, belongs to a family of 6 members. Her father Palanisamy and mother Selvi, migrated from Madurai to Coimbatore seeking employment. During the birth of their 4th child they found that they and their 2nd son were HIV positive. Bethammal spent all her time looking after her mother and siblings and dropped out from school

Bethammal’s family was identified, during the intervention by our PWDS – Community Based Care & Support Project. All 3 infected were provided Health & Nutrition and ART medicine support. We felt, Bethammal, the eldest in the family should be educated; we have put her in Abhaya Students Shelter and enrolled her in 6th grade in the Govt. School

She is living in a secured shelter regularly attending school. She eats healthy food, and lives happily among the other children. Our shelter will take care of her as long as she remains with us to complete her school / college education
