Success Story

A total of 2890 children from 95 anganwadi centres covering 59 villages underwent health checkup & 26 malnourished children were identified with the help of ther above donation. Donation was received from GiveIndia for conducting 10 units of baby show. A total of 2890 children from 95 anganwadi centres covering 59 villages underwent health checkup & 26 malnourished children were identified with the help of ther above donation.One of the Malnourished child identified was Radhika. BCCHI had organised a baby show at Thoravally village in September 2008. The anganwadi workers and multi purpose workers persuaded mothers to bring their children for a health checkup & baby show. When Radhika was examined, she was diagnosed as having Dimorphic Anaemia, stomach ache with dysentry for 1 1/2 months. Radhikas parents used to work as casual labourers and to lead their daily life itself was difficult. However they were determined to save their daughter at any cost, though they were poor.

Thanks to a donation received through GiveIndia, Radhika was prescribed a treatment schedule for 3 months. She was put on a diet of eggs, milk, high protein energy food, drugs, etc., and this diet was supplemented with Iron tonic, proteinules & vitamin A/D capsules. She was also monitored by the anganwadi workers on a daily basis, and by the field staff on a weekly basis and by BCCHI doctor once a month.

Her health gradually improved due to the trained medical attention that she was provided through the medical officer of BCCHI.. Her weight increased by 2.8 kg and her Haemoglobin percentage rose from 9.3 gms. to 11.6 gms. She is now a healthy, happy child, bringing unlimited joy to her parents.
